Sweet Mustache Treats

Things have been a bit busy around here lately, but if truth be told when aren't they really?  Despite the busy, I've been looking for a fun, special treat to make for the Dad's in my life that won't break the bank or take hours and hours to make.  These definitely fit the bill.  I know mustaches, and mustache treats are a bit passé, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make these for Father's Day.  Quick and easy all you need is a quick trip to the craft store, an hour (at most) of your time at home in prep and voila!  You're golden.  And Dad, Grandpa, whomever thinks you're a rock star.

Here's what you need:
Mustache Candy Molds ~Wilton
Colored Candy Melts
Chocolate/Candy Making Funnel

I'm usually not one to immediately buy a gadget like the funnel, but for this kind of thing it really is indispensable and could be used for other things.

And lollipop sticks.

The directions:
It's really simple, just melt the candy in the microwave for one minute only.  Then stir to thoroughly combine.  Further melt in 30 second increments if needed.  Don't over heat the candy as it will break and separate.  If this does happen however, add a small amount of vegetable shortening and stir until smooth.  Do not add water! Fill the funnel halfway full, then pour  into molds. Tap the molds onto the counter to pop any air bubbles that form during filling.  For the sake of doing a lot of mustaches quickly, I purchased two.  If you'd rather not use the melts, you can substitute dark or milk chocolate.  If you do so, I would add 1 T. vegetable shortening prior to melting to make the chocolate a bit easier, more fluid to work with.

Add the sticks, and let sit for 30 minutes or so at room temperature then refrigerate just until firm and enjoy!

Happy Fathers Day!

  1. So, so cute! Did you have to oil the molds first? These would be fun in a photo shoot, too! Have a great week-end!

    1. Didn't oil the molds. With a little wiggling they popped right out! Will post a photo of guys in their stashes later.
